Help for Selecting a Speaker

What do you want from an invited speaker?
Inspiration, exhortation, encouragement, evangelism, altar-call, motivation, teaching, entertainment? Any and all of these considerations and more, are valid depending upon what you want to accomplish for your group; select the speaker accordingly. Do you have a specific theme? Does the speaker you're considering have compatible material? Is she willing to develop new material? These are important questions.

How did you first learn of the speaker?
This is very important. Speakers often have non-exclusive representation through various speakers' bureaus. If you FIRST learned of a speaker through an event booked via a bureau, you need to inquire and book the speaker through that bureau. If you learned about a speaker through a non-bureau represented event, you can book direct with the speaker.

What should you budget?
Know the A-B-C's of speaker's fees. An accepted explanation follows: A "C" speaker is an unknown, just beginning in their ministry. A "B" speaker is one who has some following but whose name does not necessarily draw people to attend. An "A" speaker is one whose name is immediately recognized and that actually brings in people.

Some speakers will negotiate their fees others won't. Pamela Christian is in the "B" range. Her fees are negotiable based on how many times she is to speak, number of days for the event, your budget and more.

Don't forget travel expenses. Generally if an event is within a one hour drive from a speaker's home there is no travel compensation. If more than one hour, then it's reasonable to reimburse mileage at the current inclusive rate. Air fare, meals and accommodations for the speaker and possible assistant are expenses that you need to include in your budget.

Is the speaker you're considering available?
It's best to confirm a speaker a year in advance. Inquiries for specific dates come all the time, often for the same dates. Inquiries "hold" a date until a signed contract is received on a first come first serve basis. While you can secure a speaker in less time you may not get the speaker you really want. Contact us with the dates you're considering, keeping in mind the earlier the better!
