Tips and Ideas for Success

T - I - P - S
This is the first step in planning a successful event. Consider the points and corresponding questions.

Theme and Intention: Does your church or organization need more people to actively serve? Select a theme to encourage service. Does your organization lack unity? Select a theme to promote unity. Don't have a conference or retreat “just for the sake of having one.” Prayerfully have a purpose or objective in mind.

People and Speaker Profile: What audience do you want to attract? Profile a speaker "type" who can relate to your audience and accomplish your objective. Gather speaker's demo tapes and narrow down the possible candidates.

Sometimes, say after a change in Pastors, people might need to unify have "fun" at a retreat. Other times, it might be to grow and instruct, or to exhort and encourage. Identify candidates according to the needs of the people.

With TIPS out of the way, it's time to consider IDEAS:

Intercession or prayer is critical and should be first and foremost in all you do.

Details such as date and location should be decided 8-36 months in advance. The people representing location should give you a time frame in which to confirm your reservation. Being flexible about your date will give you a better chance to book your first choice in Speakers.

Evaluate and get Advice from those who worked and attended previous events. Make a point to learn from past success and failure.

Speaker Confirmation. Now it's time to re-contact the Speaker you've chosen and hopefully book for this event... As with the date, have second choice speaker in mind. Keep a file of all speakers who “made the cut"; for future years booking considerations.
